I was at the pharmacy to pick up a prescription, some sodium naproxen, and a bag of candy corn today when I randomly decided I should get a flu shot as well. I'd have gotten the shot last month but my insurance wouldn't cover it until October (also random).

After I got home I learned the CDC has been shut down during The Debacle and its flu program suspended. Let's hope this is a mild season, or a short break.

I got a flu shot last week, too - I was pleased to find that it didn't give me as many side effects as flu shots have in the past. :)

You'd think that of the various services the federal government offers, vaccination would be considered one of the more essential ones.

I'm not sure how they picked and chose. Hopefully they'll remember their mission and get rolling again soon.

Good question, actually. How DID they choose? One presumes that the funds available to the various departments is out of their hands, but that they are free to allocate the funds remaining to them in the way they see fit.

But yes, one can only hope so. As a friend of mine put it — "you had one job, Congress. ONE JOB."
