Suddenly Rabbit

I almost ran down a rabbit today on my way into work. I had been thinking about rabbit prints in the snow, seen in a dream last night, and deer beyond the fence, also seen in dreams, and Poof! A rabbit races across the road so close to me that if I hadn't braked hard he'd have been caught under my back wheels.

I've had a lot of dark dreams of late: seeing this lovely bunny (he was magnificent, a perfectly profiled fellow running across the road) was a "get your mind off such things" moment.

It seems to be rabbit season right now — just a day or two ago, I saw one dart across the lawn behind the supermarket's parking lot, right in front of me as I was walking across there. Made me think of you. :)

They've been pretty active around us as well. There's one living in the backyard, within the fenced dog yard, and its scent drives one of our dogs crazy- she's part-beagle and she takes off, nose to the ground, following unseen trails.

Bunnies were playing in the show at Heath Common today as well.

I used to think our cottontails hibernated, but they just mostly come round at dusk or dawn. As they're solitary creatures versus their European cousins, the only times I've seen them play is when playing at mating ;o)
