Thanks and a tip of the bunny ears to [livejournal.com profile] porsupah for a mention and discussion of Cats Don't Dance in a post. It had been ages since I watched this flick, and as I only had the VHS I bought it on DVD for 'five and change' from Amazon. Saw it tonight and realized how much of it I'd forgotten and just how wonderful it was. Danny is a sweetheart, and Sawyer just knocks me off my feet! Heh, I only cried a couple of times...

The DVD format was excellent- clear and bright, and outstandingly colorful! I let it run through the credits and sighed at the list of voices used. And the animators and support staff looked to be all on-shore and not farmed out to Asian studios (the names were pronounceable).

One surprise among the animators-

It was great to see this again!

That Lauren Faust? Interesting — I never had any idea she'd worked as an animator as well. The more you know!

Imagine! I had to verify that through a couple of hopefully credible sites to be certain (no Fake News! here) and yes, what a surprise to see her in the credits.

Yup. :) And IMDB confirms it, too. (In fact she's even worked as an animator on MTV's The Maxx. I'm almost surprised to not also see Æon Flux on the list — shame though, I watched that much more than I watched The Maxx or The Head, say.)

Lauren's had quite a diverse career judging from IMDB in any case, one that goes far beyond the Powerpuff Girls and MLP:FiM.

Looking closely at Sawyer during the film I could see she has a very different drawn style than Danny. Danny's lines always appeared crisp and clean (old school) whereas Sawyer had a lot of those broad strokes one sees in Powerpuffs and MLP, though not so bold. In any event, this was a fun rewatch!

I should really do likewise. ^_^ It's been probably a few years since I last watched it - indeed, I'm not sure if the roomie's ever seen it. I just wish Warner would provide an HD option, even if just to broadcasters and iTunes. (Needless to say, I'd snap up any "collectors' edition", but I suspect the chances of that are around the same as the next White House press conference starring Trump and Pence in a rousing performance of Springtime for Hitler =:)

BTW, I took advantage of the 99¢ rental on Long Way North, though (surprise!) I haven't actually watched it yet - maybe on Saturday.

And whomever voiced Sawyer did a spot on job, too.. who can forget her introduction? "The romance of filing.." *grin* Oh, there's just so much to love about that production.

(Hm! I just realised: I don't have any Sawyer icons! I should remedy that.. I've got CDD somewhere as a de-DRM'd iTunes purchase)

I was extremely satisfied with the quality of the DVD I purchased when viewed on the Samsung (*gasp* was the NSA watching with me?) and wonder if it would be any different in HD. Darla at home was so... Pink! And another thing that occurred to me one day last year when watching the dreary Sunset Boulevard was that Gloria Swanson's butler was also a big bald guy named Max.

This was great to see again, thanks!

...and I'll keep Long Way North in mind. I still have Summer Wars here waiting for a viewing. I watched Drunk, Stoned, Brilliant, Dead last night on Netflix, instead, following a comment by [livejournal.com profile] sabotlours.

I've really been amazed at the restoration results on many DVDs and BluRays of late... the Pinocchio one is particularly astounding!

We have an old Disney xmas VHS, one introduced by Jiminy Cricket, and it's shocking how washed out some of the footage used actually is, particularly Pinocchio!
