I'm sure everyone has heard by now that Richard Adams has died. I saw a post on Twitter this afternoon about streaming Watership Down and realized from that what must have occurred. I wasn't infatuated with the book, an odd admittance from this bunny, but I read it in high school when it was first released (1972) and have watched the movie several times.

RIP. If LJ wasn't a train wreck here on the iPad I'd have included a nice picture to accompany this post.

Alt.devilbunnies borrowed from many mythos. The devilbunnies had razor sharp claws and fangs like the Rabbit of Caerbannog (Monty Python's killer rabbit for any of your followers who don't know its name). They worshiped Frith and expected the Black Rabbit of Inle to come to lead them home at the end of their lives, borrowed/adopted from Mr. Adam's work. They excelled at science and technology and were about 10 years ahead of humans, tech-wise. Their scientists earned the title, Mentat, borrowed from Dune.

He really changed my childhood. I can't believe he's gone...

In the FB's newsfeed flooding of other celebrity deaths, in the end I had to use Google to find out if it was a rumor or true - though he reached such honorable age I guess it was just a question of time.

Indeed, a terrible loss. At least he did get to see his work become so very popular - world famous - and even animated. (Begetting a particularly memorable Tiswas moment, too =:)
