Here thar be treasure!
Jun. 18th, 2016 02:26 pmI was doing some more barn cleaning today, a sad little task fraught with sad little ghosts. In the end stall, wherein hangs my Raleigh,

I chanced upon the decayed and scattered ruins of boxes which once held precious memories...

Goodness, what a wreck! The barn roof collapsed and rotted long ago, as these things were probably stored around 1980. On a hopeful whim I dug into the slimy mess, and immediately recognized an item I've been searching for (off and on) for the last 25 or so years!

Date: 2016-06-20 11:24 pm (UTC)I was pleasantly surprised to find this intact, particularly after our chats. I'm glad you still have yours. Jeez, my co-worker even remembers this cologne (she's 65).

Date: 2016-06-21 09:38 am (UTC)Indeed we often gather a bit toooooo much stuff, but eventually the chaff gets tossed and the cream rises to the top.. just like it did with your find!
Now I was hoping to get a pic of mine for ya right away, but my camera is charging and my cel is off for the night, so I thought I could get a shot with the webcam but itz awwwful!... So I'll get a right-good shot for you soon, in daylight with proper equipment!
As it was, I had to climb up to a high nearly-inaccessible shelf to get the bottle down... :D ... but there it was! I'm soooo glad it has survived thru a few earthquakes ok up there... other things have not...
I opened it up and took in the scent...mmmmm.... great as ever!! I think I even have the wooden box it came in somewhere..... :9

Date: 2016-06-23 11:37 am (UTC)*hugs* So much chaff here... I'm overwhelmed with all these ghosts ;o) My brother, on the other paw, has no qualms with tossing things that he doesn't want, doesn't understand, or just doesn't care about.
*sigh* I'll have a dumpster in the yard in the next week or so (re-shingling the roof)and I really have to get rid of some of the less important things. A co-worker once stated that the cellar was a place for things to die, i.e. a place to keep stuff until there are no more pleasant memories associated with them.
Case in point is that china seen in the second pic: Russel Wright 'modern' from the 50's: my mom's pride and joy back in that day. Most of it is crazed and chipped now, or just broken like the celery server in the bottom foreground. All I've managed to salvage is a really cool teapot and a couple of plates- I may toss the rest :o(

Date: 2016-06-26 05:13 pm (UTC)I told my brother I felt I was on a 'dig,' and he commented how some of the old bottles in stall #3 lay hidden for a century undamaged, only to end up broken in our barn...
