We had raccoons as pets when I was a kid http://mondhasen.livejournal.com/136821.html so it was difficult to see this one in the condition it had deteriorated to. Raccoons and foxes are the major carriers of rabies in our area (other than feral cats) so I could not chance this fellow spreading it about more if that was the cause of its ailment.
I love the Royal Mint's Beatrix Potter collection! All we get are dead presidents, token minorities (any coin that is hailed as a breakthrough for target groups comes across as minted as a pacifier instead of just a way to sincerely honor someone), and lately National Parks. Canada has lovely animal coins, too, so why not we in the US?
